Breakbulking from existing LNG infrastructure

Over the past 12-18 months there has been an increasing appetite within the LNG and shipping industries to fill bunker vessels or break bulk to smaller carriers from existing FSRU & FSUs. This can be a challenge using transfer systems specified for bulk transfer, but with the correct procedures and checks it can be achieved. The transfer can be enabled by looking at and addressing the following:

  • Reducers or extended spool pieces

  • Longer hoses

  • QCDC compatibility

  • Standard compliance

  • Control system set up

  • ESD set points

  • Fender size

  • Mooring analysis

  • Operational practices
